Accelera™ by Cummins, the zero-emissions business segment of Cummins Inc. [NYSE: CMI], will unveil a fully electric, ultra-low-floor axle engineered to improve accessibility, efficiency and performance for modern city buses. This latest innovation in sustainable transit technology will be on display at Busworld, Oct. 4-9 in Brussels, Belgium.
“We’re excited to introduce our newest eAxle solution, designed to meet the low-floor city bus needs of urban transit systems,” said Brian Wilson, Vice President and General Manager of eMobility at Accelera. “This technology not only enhances passenger experience but also delivers meaningful operational benefits for fleets committed to sustainability.”
Meet the new electric ultra-low-floor axle (eULFA)
Built for ultra-low-floor transit buses, the eULFA eliminates interior steps and maximizes usable space — making boarding faster and easier for all passengers, especially those with mobility challenges.
Applications: Designed for city and intercity transit buses
Simplified architecture: Smooth riding experience with improved efficiency
Enhanced efficiency: Equipped with high-performance dual motors and two ELFA3 inverters, using one coolant type
Quiet operation: Patented gear design with lower motor speed provides low noise levels while driving
Customizable configurations: Options for various track widths, gear ratios and suspension interfaces
High-speed capability: Supports speeds up to 85 km/h for robust city performance
Optimized serviceability: Easy mechanical disconnection allows for simplified serviceability
Accelera will also display its new Advanced LFP battery platform, providing city buses with flexibility to meet space-constrained needs. With battery manufacturing planned in Europe, Accelera is advancing efforts to support battery electric vehicle needs locally.
Applications: Suitable for city buses, heavy-duty and medium-duty trucks
Advanced LFP design: Long-cell lithium iron phosphate with low-height sub-packs and in-chassis mounting
Modular and scalable: Tiered configurations allow for tailored energy solutions
Easy integration: Fits various powertrain requirements and spatial constraints
Compact power: High energy density in a lightweight form
Enhanced performance: Improved range, payload capacity and efficiency
With advanced eAxle technology and a new modular LFP battery platform, Accelera is expanding its portfolio of zero-emissions solutions. These innovations help transit agencies deliver cleaner, quieter and more accessible transportation for communities around the world.
